The tag programmer allows a user to encode data into a tag. The tag programmer makes a direct physical connection with the tag's electronics through the tag's programming port. This port must then be sealed using a tag plug.
The tag programmer must be connected to a PC computer provided by the user. The tag programmer comes with a DOS program for programming tags, therefore, the PC must be capable of running a DOS program. This program is included with the programmer and allows the user to encode data into the tags using straight text data (up to 20 alpha/numeric characters) or one of the standards formats specified by the Association of American Railroads, American Trucking Association or the International Standards Organization (ISO standard is for containers only).
A Windows program for programming tags is also available. This program will run on any system using the Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, ME or XP operating system. This program will also interface to the AI2000 SmartScan Portable AEI Reader so that data encoded in the tag can be verified with an RF reader. More information of this program can be found by clicking on the icon below.
The connection to the PC is through one of the computer's communication ports using an RS-232 serial interface. The interface cable and various DB-9 to DB-25 convertors are included with the programmer.
